Book Summary:

The premise of this book is that God has designed a roadmap for Christians who have lost their way, so that they can return to Him and to a life of clean joy without regret, in the context of grace. Using many different scriptures and principles the author has spelled out the plan for return, which he says will work for any backslidden Christian who faithfully follow it. But the way back is not easy, which is why "Return To Joy" is written in a simple step-by-step style, to allow seekers to find their way back to God at their own pace. This is a self-help manual, not a great theological treatise. Anyone who can read and understand simple English should be able to use this book to help them get back to God and return to His joy.

Christians' journey back to God consists in the way of charity, yet it is far from straightforward or sequential. In sum, the virtues are divine gifts humanly received, treasure in earthen vessels. Book Summary:

No matter what you have been through or what you may be going through, remember God loves you and He has not forgotten you. Throughout this book, you will find many scriptures reminding you of just how much He cares. The adversary tries to otherwise convince you. He is a liar and cannot be trusted. After all, his job is to steal, to kill, and to destroy; he will use anything and anybody to deceive you because he cares nothing about you. Trust God’s plans for your life! After all, He is the way, the truth and the light. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers and against the prince of darkness (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV). Everyone is on a Journey in life; we all have to end up somewhere—the choice is yours. It is God’s desire to bless you, but first you must be in order and in alignment with His word. The word of the Lord cannot return to Him void. So let go of the past hurt and disappointment and look toward your future. God has something great in store for you. Recognize your worth!! Many women, no matter the age, have suffered with identity and self-esteem issues; even with the flaws, you are still valuable.

This is where I close my eyes and say hmm for God's goodness, grace and mercy. Now when I walk into my apartment there is a warmth of love. It was me that I have been missing. Book Summary:

God is waiting for each of us to return home! In fact, God is already out in the world searching and inviting each person to take the journey back to God's house. Relational Discipleship: Moving Back Home with God approaches discipleship from a fresh perspective and intentionally draws on biblical principles and examples of discipleship. In this approach, the metaphor of a house is used to describe our journey back to God. Hospitality plays a key factor in how discipleship, from this perspective, warmly calls each person forward in each step. Other modes of discipleship are solely focused on transformation of the disciple. Here, in this model, the transformation of the discipler must occur first. Then, the discipler can be a warm host helping other travelers on the path to God's house. Join in the journey today and see how Relational Discipleship offers the call to move back home with God.

Book Summary:

I had tried everything: therapy, medication, meditation. Everything except God. Lily Burana was in crisis. Desperate for rescue from her depression and anxiety, the punk-rock-girl-turned-writer feared she would die. She was down to her remedy of last resort: faith. A lapsed believer who had drifted away from the church and into a life on the margins during her young adult years, Lily had long believed that Christianity had nothing to offer her. Then an unmistakable sign from above led to her unexpected decision to let God in—just a little bit. But how could she come to terms with a religion she had dismissed as hostile and intolerant? In this collection of linked essays that chronicle her spiritual recovery, Lily explores what it means to embrace “a faith of surprisingly Jesus-y shape.” Lily navigates her own unique path toward a trusting relationship with God as she addresses topics as diverse as coming out as Christian to your non-Christian friends, the intersection of faith and motherhood, and what it means to confront your history of mental illness and trauma. Whether recounting her history as a “baby Goth,” extolling the healing power of glitter, or wrestling with God for control over her life, Lily proves that you don’t need to have a flawless faith in order to experience God’s grace in action. “Grace for Amateurs is that rare Christian book packed with humor, depth, kindness, intelligence, and inclusion. If you yearn to return to the heart of faith—boundless, agenda-less love—sit down with Burana. She’ll make you laugh and restore your hope.” —Glennon Doyle, New York Times bestselling author of Love Warrior and Carry On, Warrior

If God Were Real

  • Isbn : 1439100853
  • Pages : 224
  • Category : Religion
  • Reads : 699
  • File Pdf: if-god-were-real.pdf

Book Summary:

In this provocative book, pastor John avant encourages readers to uphold a consistent practice of what they believe, not just a verbalization of what they believe. If Christians truly believe in God, they should live genuinely changed lives as the ultimate proof that He is real. Many Christians live their lives as if they do not believe in God. They go to church and praise His name on Sundays, but in their daily lives they don’t think about the Lord that often. They don’t show much concern or charity for others. They don’t feel gratitude to the Lord for His blessings. They don’t allow God’s love to be reflected in their actions—giving Christianity a bad name in the process. In their practical, day-to-day lives, many Christians are almost living as though they are atheists. Pastor Avant witnesses many Christians not living up to their claims, and he asserts that there is not much Christ left in that form of Christianity. In If God Were Real, he challenges Christians to consider whether or not they believe in God. If they do, Pastor Avant wants readers to consider what life would be like if they lived as if they believed in God. He advocates for the pursuit of a new Jesus movement that resembles Christ’s original followers—followers who were so steadfastly devoted to Him that their every action reflected His glory. With If God Were Real, readers will embark on an adventure of discovery of the real God and a life lived in praise of Him.

Book Summary:

Life is a complex journey, and each of us must find our own way. But sometimes we take a wrong turn and get lost. When that happens we have to backtrack and begin again. We are living in a time when many young adults who dropped out of church in high school or college are seeking to reconnect with their faith, while older Christians are feeling a need to turn their own lives around. Finding the Way offers help for all Christians who are hungry for an intimate relationship with God and want to restart their spiritual journey on a path they can see clearly, explain simply, follow faithfully, and share with others. This is a book for those who want to practice Christian faith as a way of life, not merely accept it as a system of doctrine. We are not lost in a trackless, twenty-first-century spiritual wasteland. There is a Way that can lead us home to God. We have companions on the journey, and the Good Shepherd himself will guide us. Finding the Way calls us to brave the steep, upward journey with Jesus--to rededicate ourselves boldly to the imitation of Christ.

Book Summary:

Sally Dickerson grew up in a loving, nurturing family who enjoyed the prosperity of 1950s. She was provided everything she needed to become a successful adult, yet she suffered silently, believing she was ugly, unlovable, and worthless. She remembered learning the songs of Jesus's unconditional love but believed that love was a gift given to everyone else because she didn't deserve it. Her self-loathing and lack of self-esteem were compounded throughout her youth as she tried to cope by compulsively overeating, abusing alcohol, and engaging in a long series of emotionally abusive relationships with men. In Long Journey Back to Eden, she shares her story about how God reached out to her in the depths of depression, began to heal her, and led her from a place of constant fear and anxiety to a place of contentment and acceptance of herself as someone who can freely and joyfully claim, "I am loved by God." credit photo: cover photo by Ann Cashner dovesnestphotos@icloud.com

Book Summary:

Richard Ferguson grew up a rough kid in a rough neighborhood—and yet he went on to become a Reiki master with a pilot’s license and two master’s degrees. How did he rise above his early circumstances? It started with a godly epiphany high in the sky above the Paci?c Ocean. Since then, he has been a spiritual seeker, and, as the good book says, those who seek will ultimately ?nd. Follow his riotous path in A Real-Life Christian Spiritual Journey. Ferguson’s Christian transformation was not immediate. Once upon a time, he hated everything to do with religion. Part I uses Ferguson’s life journey as a template for the paths of all human life. We all go through stages, and each stage equates to who we ultimately will be and what we will believe in. Part II traces the unity of our stages in the earthly realm. Part III sets foot into the great beyond. Ferguson lost his wife to death, but he has come to realize that death is not an ending; it is a graduation to a higher, more joyful existence in eternity. With the guidance of psychologists Erik Erikson and James Fowler, as well as spiritual greats St. Paul and the Buddha, Ferguson looks back on a life well lived—proving that when you seek ?rst a higher power, all knowledge will be given to you.

Book Summary:

Spirituality is our connection to a greater whole. It is a journey “from God, to God, and with God,” and thus a journey toward Self. Through this process, we come to differentiate between our temporary self, called ego, and our permanent self, the part of us made for ongoing relationship with God. In the end, we discover that we know God by being known, much like one loves by being loved. There are two “halves” or phases in spirituality, sometimes flawed, sometimes overlapping, and other times distinct. While many people experience first-half-of-life spirituality, most never get to second-half-of-life thinking and living. Designed as a study guide for group or individual use, The Second Journey examines the development of Christian spirituality, starting with its conception in the biblical and Greek philosophical tradition and continuing in orthodox and heterodox expressions. Reading this book is like looking through one’s favorite album of photographs, each illustrating some aspect or dimension vital to spirituality. The range of portraits examined is extensive, including groups such as Platonists, Stoics, Gnostics, Quakers, Revivalists, Neo-Orthodox, and Eastern Orthodox, and individuals such as Philo, Valentinus, Origen, Dionysius, Augustine, Julian of Norwich, John of the Cross, Jonathan Edwards, John Wesley, Schleiermacher, Kierkegaard, Barth, Tillich, and Richard Rohr. Examining traditional and non-traditional thinkers, readers will discover that knowing God involves both light and darkness, usually in that order. “Spirituality does not make us otherworldly; it renders us more fully alive.” ––Matthew Fox

Yet one of the oldest stories in the Bible shows us that this is not the case. If you feel like you could never bounce back from your past mistakes, like it's too late to return to a right relationship with Christ, and He could never restore all that was lost, then this is the book for you! Don't be bound by your past and don't give up on your future. Come back to a place of hope found in Christ. You will find answers to questions like these: Have I gone too far? Does God love me? Can I come back to the place I once was? Will Christ redeem all that I lost? This book helps you to return to a place of peace and hope in Christ and empowers you to live a life that is no longer hindered by your mistakes or failures. "Have you ever gone down a path that slowly but incrementally got worse and worse? Perhaps it was a business idea that required more and more investment, but never generated a profit. Or it could be someone you were dating longer than you should have before you realized he or she was not the one for you. It is a horrible feeling. It feels like you wasted time and energy only to end up going backwards. Well, that might very well be what you should do... Go backwards! Go back to the place God called you to be. There is no shame in turning around and turning your life around. The title of this book says it all: "Rebound, Return, Restore." Read it. Then start your journey back to God. Remember that a path that started out good but got worse and worse... is also the very same path that gets better and better on the trip back." - Nick Gromicko "Nick Gromicko, bestselling author, founder of Cozy Coats for Kids." This book is a profound way to look at the story of Ruth, Christianity, and life as a whole! Generally, when people preach about Ruth, that is exactly where they start ... they never talk about the back story of Naomi. The fact that she had a choice of the house of bread (life) or house of death! I thoroughly enjoyed the description of that choice. Secondly what truly blew me away was the description of the genealogy of Jesus, which Ruth became a part of. Every name is a prophetic picture of Christ's sacrifice and victory through the cross and resurrection. I have always known that those names are important but have never been able to put them together! I truly believe that this one revelation in the book is like striking gold! You will love this book. It will encourage you if you are minister, backslidden or someone who has not made Jesus Christ your personal Savior! Enjoy the journey as God opens your eyes to who God has made you to be through this book! Philip Renner, Author and Worship Leader

Book Summary:

Norma Jean Duncan found God following a personal revelation of his love. In a life now dedicated to him, she offers her readers an account of her journey that illustrates the difficulties of living in a secular world with a heavenly perspective. Duncan weaves personal reflections into her discussions on the glory of God, prayer, love, forgiveness, obedience, and terminal illness and shows the relevance of scriptural wisdom to the life of every modern believer. There are chapters on eternal scriptural truth, and the factors that corrupt it and lead to the promotion of intolerance and injustice in organized religion. The author examines this difficulty in relation to subjects like creation, sexuality, gender submission, faith and works, the spiritual standing of those who have no knowledge of Christ, and the rise of aggressive atheism. Through discussion of these controversial but important topics, her intention is that the Christian community will lead and not follow the contemporary secular world.

Book Summary:

As a believer and a man of God who honors God wherever I go, I had the pleasure of meeting Brenda in what I thought was a chance encounter...that is, until I realized that she too was a believer. I then understood that our meeting was a divine appointment. Through our periodic professional meetings and phone calls, Brenda’s life story began emerging, and I knew that she had a story that God wanted to be told. I Choose Me is really a story of spiritual discovery and healing. It is the evangelistic testimony of a woman who has allowed God to heal every hurt. This book is heart warming, challenging and inspiring! It is a must-read for anyone who has encountered “hell on earth” in their life and for those who have still yet to encounter this phenomenon. After reading this book, like Brenda, I believe you too will complete your journey back to YOU! Blessings! Warren E. Anderson, Associate Pastor and Author

Book Summary:

Omar Khayyam’s Secret: Hermeneutics of the Robaiyat in Quantum Sociological Imagination, authored by Mohammad H. Tamdgidi, is a 12-book series of which this is the 4th volume, subtitled Khayyami Philosophy: The Ontological Structures of the Robaiyat in Omar Khayyam’s Last Written Keepsake Treatise on the Science of the Universals of Existence. Each book, independently readable, can be best understood as a part of the whole series. Having confirmed in the prior three books of the series the true dates of birth and passing of Omar Khayyam, his pen name origins, and his authorship of a robaiyat collection, Tamdgidi explores in this fourth book the origins, nature, and purpose of such a collection by applying the series’ quantum sociological imagination method to hermeneutically explore the ontological structures of the Robaiyat in Khayyam’s last written treatise. Khayyam’s treatise, found in the early 20th century and still largely ignored or misread, radically challenges the mythical narratives built over the centuries about him as one who thought existence is unknowable, having died not solving its riddles. Strangely, his treatise instead offers a logically coherent and brilliant worldview of someone who has found his answers as far as human existence is concerned. Khayyam even goes so far as confidently saying he hopes his peers would agree that his brief treatise is more useful than volumes. Offering the Persian text and his new English translation of the treatise, Tamdgidi undertakes in this book a detailed clause-based hermeneutic study of the treatise. He also explores its broader intellectual and historical contexts by examining its relation to the book “Savior from Error” by Khayyam’s junior (by more than three decades) contemporary foe, Muhammad Ghazali, while questioning the long-held belief that the treatise was requested by and addressed to Fakhr ol-Molk, a son of the famous vizier Nezam ol-Molk. Tamdgidi finds instead that the treatise was written in AD 1095-96, a few years earlier than thought, for another son of Nezam ol-Molk, Moayyed ol-Molk, who served at the time Soltan Muhammad, Malekshah’s son. The treatise was intended as a philosophical foundation to move the post-Malekshah Iran in a more independent direction by way of influencing his son, Muhammad. Ghazali in his book, likely written to please Ahmad Sanjar (Malekshah’s younger son who disliked Khayyam) and his vizier at the time, Fakhr ol-Molk, anonymously chastised Khayyam as a philosopher, duplicitously feeding the cynical metaphors that some theologians and Sufis hurled at Khayyam down the centuries. Khayyam’s treatise unveils his vision of existence as a participatory universe where the subject has objective status, shedding a new light on the ontological structures of the Robaiyat. His “succession order” thesis of existence is an alternative Islamic creationist-evolutionary worldview that offers a prescient quantum conceptualist vision of the universe as a unitary, relatively self-reliant, self-knowing, and self-creative, substance lovingly created by an absolutely good God in His own image. Existence is essentially good but, due to its good volitionally self-creative nature, can be potentially subject to incidental defects that are nevertheless knowable and curable to build both a spiritually fulfilling and a joyful life in this world. Other than God’s Necessary Existence there is no “another world”; judgment days, heavens, and hells are definitely real this-worldly, not after-worldly, existents. In Khayyam’s view, human existence can be what good we artfully make of it, starting here-and-now from our own personal selves in our this-worldly lifetimes. It is to creatively realize such an existence that the Robaiyat must have been intended. Book Summary:

A young mother's life is forever changed and her faith in God is broken when her son in diagnosed with complex physical disabilities. Restore and grow your faith as you read about Hilary Yancey's personal journey back to God. Three months into her pregnancy with her first child, Hilary Yancey received a phone call that changed everything. As she learned the diagnosis-cleft lip and palate, a missing right eye, possible breathing complications-Hilary began to pray in earnest. Even in the midst of these findings, she prayed that God would heal her son. God could do a miracle unlike anything she had seen. Only when Hilary held her baby, Jack, in her arms for the first time did she realize God had given her something drastically different than what she had demanded. Hilary struggled to talk to God as she sat for six weeks beside Jack's crib in the NICU. She consented to surgeries and learned to care for a breathing tube and gastronomy button. In her experience with motherhood Hilary had become more familiar with the sound of her son's heart monitor than the sound of his heartbeat. Later, during surgeries and emergency trips back to the hospital with her crying, breathless boy, Hilary reproached the stranger God had become. Jack was different. Hilary was not the mother she once imagined. God was not who Hilary knew before. But she could not let go of one certainty-she could see the image of Christ in Jack's face. Slowly, through long nights of wrestling and longer nights of silence, Hilary cut a path through her old, familiar faith to the God behind it. She discovered that it is by walking out onto the water, where the firm ground gives way, that we can find him. And meeting Jesus, who rises with his scars to proclaim new life, is never what you once imagined. !--EndFragment--
